About this collection
"Our Chosen 100 Pride Sites of the Castle Town Chofu" was planned as part of the 2010 fiscal year Shimonoseki Chamber of Commerce and Industry's "Castle Town Chofu" project.
This project aims to organize, certify, and honor 100 items—ranging from cultural heritage, historic sites, notable figures, and industries—that residents take pride in, as well as famous people connected to Chofu. The goal is to utilize these as assets and broad tourism resources.
Key considerations for selection included excluding transient items and focusing on those that withstand historical scrutiny; selecting broadly across all categories and time periods; presenting historical events with explanations of why they occurred in Chofu, including causality and narrative; and carefully considering whether notable historical figures are chosen for their personhood or their actions and relics.
The main participants were local residents and citizens of Shimonoseki. The selection expresses the essence of "Castle Town Chofu," formed through history from ancient times to the present, in various forms. It aims to serve as a "starting point for action" for citizens engaged in town development today.
