Fukushima's Top 100 Green Landscapesふくしま緑の百景
About this collection
"Fukushima's Top 100 Green Landscapes" was selected in 1985 with the aim of "reconsidering the importance of hometown forests and trees" and "protecting and nurturing their beauty." It was conducted as a commemoration of the "International Year of Forests," organized by the Fukushima Minpo newspaper and the Prefectural Greening Promotion Committee, with 100 landscapes chosen by public vote.
The selection includes parks such as "Yanagawa Hope Forest Park" and "Handayama Natural Park," natural features like "Ishigamori Pine Forest" and "Ozasou's Sixteen Ponds Cherry Trees," as well as representative green spaces from various cities and towns, including wetlands like "Komadome Marsh" and "Miyatoko Marsh."
Due to the impact of the Great East Japan Earthquake, some of the selected landscapes have unfortunately been lost. As a provisional measure, evaluations for locations where entry is prohibited or discouraged are left blank.
The beauty of the environment and trees is always changing. To maintain this beauty, the "Fukushima Top 100 Green Landscapes Walking Association," hosted annually by Motomiya City, the Prefectural Forestry, Forestry and Greening Association, and Fukushima Minpo, has drawn attention to this selection as a prefecture-wide event to continue protecting these landscapes. For example, the 25th event in 2013 started at Shirakawa Sports Ground in Motomiya City and ended at Iwakakujii Temple on Mount Iwakaku, covering a special course of about 12 kilometers.
