Oyama Hundred Viewsおやま百景
About this collection
"Oyama Hundred Views" is a collection of landscapes selected in 1994 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the city administration of Oyama City, Tochigi Prefecture. Geographically, Oyama City is located just 60 kilometers from the Tokyo metropolitan area and is a transportation hub where the JR Tohoku Shinkansen and three JR conventional lines intersect, along with three major national highways, earning it the reputation as the "front gateway to northern Kanto."
The "Oyama Hundred Views" were chosen from landscapes recommended by citizens across categories such as "natural scenery," "famous sites and historic places," "unique festivals and events," and "daily life and industry." From 200 candidate sites selected by district committees and the executive committee, citizens voted to finalize the selections. The selections are divided into areas: Oyama District, Otani District, Mamada District, Ikui District, Samukawa District, Naka District, Hozumi District, Toyoda District, Kuwabara District, and Kinu District.
In 1994, the results were compiled and published in the "Oyama Hundred Views Guidebook." Ten years later, in 2004, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the city administration, a revised and reprinted edition titled "Oyama Hundred Views Guidebook - Point of Interest in OYAMA guide book" was published, reflecting changes over the decade.
