About this collection
The "Okinawa Hometown 100 Selections" is a list of 100 attractive regional groups connected to agriculture, forestry, and fisheries. It is implemented to promote understanding of farming, mountain, and fishing villages and to revitalize these regions.
The selections are categorized into three genres: the settlement category (regional activities that reflect unique local characteristics and form harmonious communities), the production category (conservation and production activities in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries that harmonize with the surrounding environment), and the exchange category (traditional festivals related to agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, events unique to farming, mountain, and fishing villages, and urban-rural exchange activities).
Selections are made based on recommendations from each municipality and are finalized through screening by the Village Development Planning Division of the Okinawa Prefecture Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the organizer of the project. This is a future-oriented selection contributing to Okinawa's environmental conservation and tourism. Expectations are high for the advancement of activities and increased recognition.
