Kumamoto Prefecture Heisei Famous Waters 100 Selection熊本県平成の名水百選
About this collection
Kumamoto Prefecture is known as a "treasure trove of water resources," blessed with over 1,000 springs. With the aim of passing these spring water sources on to the next generation, the prefecture has certified outstanding scenic spots and spring water sources where regional conservation activities are active as "Kumamoto Prefecture Heisei Famous Waters." The "Kumamoto Prefecture Heisei Famous Waters 100 Selection" encompasses 100 famous waters (with 50 locations certified in the first round). (While there are nationwide "Famous Waters 100 Selections," this particular 100 selection is known as a relatively new initiative.)
Not all of the 100 selections are necessarily suitable for drinking, but the beautiful, moisture-rich landscapes are unique to Kumamoto Prefecture.
When visiting these locations, please be aware that some points may lack developed roads or parking facilities, so safety precautions are necessary. Of course, to maintain the beautiful water environment, commercial water collection and littering are strictly prohibited.
