One Hundred Views of Ibaraki茨城百景
About this collection
The "One Hundred Views of Ibaraki" was selected in 1950 by the Ibaraki Prefecture Tourism Council. It covers many of Ibaraki's most famous scenic spots.
While similar events exist nationwide, the One Hundred Views of Ibaraki has a long history and includes nationally known tourist attractions such as Kairakuen Garden. In Sakaimachi, Sarushima District, there is an "Ibaraki One Hundred Views Memorial Park" commemorating this event, which is used as a facility for learning about history and literature.
The highlight of the One Hundred Views is undoubtedly Kairakuen in Mito City. It is counted among Japan's three great gardens and features about 3,000 plum trees of approximately 100 varieties, displaying magnificent colors.
From late February to late March, when the plum blossoms are in full bloom, many events such as the "Mito Plum Festival" are held, attracting numerous tourists. Incidentally, Kairakuen Park is known as an urban park with an area of 300 hectares, ranking as the world's second largest in scale.
