100 Selected Remote Regions of Japan日本の秘境百選

About this collection
The 100 Selected Remote Regions of Japan were chosen by the magazine "Tabi" and consist of 100 "unknown scenic spots" located throughout the country. Since these are "remote regions," they do not necessarily include only famous tourist destinations; some are extremely rugged mountains requiring considerable equipment for climbing. Additionally, some locations have become well-known after being selected, causing the original meaning of "remote region" to be somewhat lost in certain cases.
The selected remote regions are diverse, including mountain trails, coastlines, islands, forests, ruins, and waterfall basins, offering a selection that appeals to connoisseurs. For those seeking unusual sightseeing experiences, these spots are highly desirable. However, transportation access and lodging facilities are not always well developed, so thorough information gathering before visiting is essential.
Some places offer a relaxed sightseeing atmosphere (such as Ishigaki Island), while others demonstrate the harshness of nature (such as Senbon Mountain). For safety reasons, guided tours are recommended in some locations. When traveling to distant areas, checking the climate beforehand is also advised.
These uniquely characteristic remote regions will delight your travel spirit with their distinctive charm.
